it was a bet between two friends (mani ratnam and kamal haasan) on who will reinterpret THE GODFATHER first and mani won it by a 5 year gap.
even though kamal went on to make DEVAR MAGAN, A BETTER ADAPTATION, in early ninetees, this performance stands out as the best potrayal of a don in Indian cinema. THE THIRD NATIONAL AWARD FOR HAASAN.
