When Raj Kamal Films International (R.K.F.I) carried out the 4 day conference/workshop on screen writing, a few months back in Chennai, one more brick was placed on Tamil Cinema's most ambitious dream castle. The indie-indie * production house started way back in 1981 ( yes, the same old story of the actor wanting to give the creator inside him more financial freedom and deciding to pen and produce his film in a go) has inarguably made atleast half of the ten best films ever made in tamil cinema. The production house, which is pretty much a one man - one brain - masterpiece making machine has made stunning attempts at different Indian cinema and at the same time managed to 'buck the trend' ** almost all the time ( Except in the case of its most different film !) This article written on the 49th anniversary and the official start of Kamal Haasan's journey into filmdom is a tribute to the all time great production houses of chennai - The firm which has always put everything it has got from art, back into much better art!
