DASAVATHARAM REVIEW, REACTIONS AND MORE

13TH JUNE FRIDAY 2PM

There are two ways in which one could and should look at dasavatharam. One - as a movie and Two- as the making of a movie. The first way will make u amazed and the second will leave u spellbound.

After "n" attempts at delivering good cinema, Kamal Haasan - the screenwriter - tires to present a complex plot not as it is but coated in sugar for all audience to enjoy. In this movie he discusses and makes passing references to a wide range of concepts. From religion to biowar to sand thrift to the butterfly effect and chaos theory, Dasavatharam has it all in a single three and half hour bout of technical brilliance.

The first twenty minutes belong to ravi k verman the cameraman. He makes us turn and bend and raise to the tune of his camera. Especially the very first frame where we travel from the sea to the city.Kamal as nambi is as awesome as ever.Others are just okay ..or rather are made to look okay by kamal's histrionics.

Enter govind ramaswamy- the main protagonist. The scenes at his office and his friends' place are typical "calm before the storm" type of scenes... ie. some slow sequences before the chase begins.
After these basic plot builders, we are treated to a thrilling and at the same time comic ride along with 8 ohter kamals, each having his own looks and his own slang. All the action takes place in a span of just three days.

Like most kamal screenplays, this too builds up into one last ditch where all the action takes place and over here it is the tsunami which apart from death brings along with it tonnes and tonnes of NACL , very necessary to avoid the bio-weapon (which everyone is in search of) destroy the whole country

Now the most negative thing about the movie is character detail and character necessity of the ten kamals. Atleast 3 out of the ten characters are forcibly fed into a screenplay whose mouth is already full.

As a dialogue writer kamal has reached new highs, two instances prove it... one when vaiyyapuri says "neenga enna paatiya?" and one when kamal himself says "I am not saying that got doesnt exist , i am only saying that it would have been better if he existed "

THE REACTIONS AND B.O.FUTURE
Mixed is the word that can best describe the public reaction. Some were astonished and stunned by what hit them and others were dissapointed. Some couldn't make head or tail of the plot. Rajinimaniacs (read motherfuckers) as usual, targetted the wrong areas... instead of saying the roles weren't great they said the plot was bad, which is ridiculous.

The movie will definitely be a superhit and recover all costs cos the whole world wants to know what the ten roles are. Apart from that there is a lot in the movie both for the mass(front benchers) and the class( the intelligentia). The mass will awe at the technical wizardry and the class will break its head thinking just how the movie was shot.

I personally dont care if its a hit or not, neither does kamal. Marmayogi is the next halt for good cinema lovers
